Birthday of King Charles III marked with reception also celebrating Romanian-British bilateral relation

The Birthday of King Charles III was marked at the British Residence on Thursday with a reception that also celebrated Romanian-British bilateral relations, community, culture and trade.

British Ambassador Giles Portman said that the event celebrates not only the birthday of His Majesty King Charles III and the remarkable bilateral relationship, but also community, culture and trade, as within the residence there are artworks created by Queen Marie of Romania from the collection previously exhibited in London and Viscri, which demonstrate the love that the granddaughter of Queen Victoria had for the flowers of her adopted country. He also mentioned that alongside Queen Marie's art are two works created a century later by her relative, King Charles, showing the same affection for the unspoilt landscape and rich biodiversity of this beautiful country. The ambassador also voiced gratitude that a collection of art and commemorative objects in Constantin Brancusi's honour had been generously loaned to the residence, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of the great Romanian sculptor.

He also said that Russia's ongoing attempt to redraw the map of Europe by force makes advocacy and pressure for peace more important than ever.

Ambassador Portman said that Russia's continued attempt to redraw the map of Europe by force, its indiscriminate attacks on civilians in Ukraine and its increasingly irresponsible incursions into Romania make it more important than ever that we advocate and exert pressure for peace.

In turn, Senate President Mircea Abrudean pointed out that King Charles has long held a special place in the hearts of Romanians because he has visited the country many times, representing an enduring symbol of friendship between the Romanian and British nations.

He also expressed appreciation for Queen Marie's contribution and dedication to Romania, pointing out that in difficult times she knew how to protect the country's national interests.

Mircea Abrudean said that Romanian-British friendship is today reflected in a strong strategic partnership, with cooperation covering foreign policy, security, trade, investment and innovation.

He also expressed appreciation for the United Kingdom's contribution to Romania's security.
