President of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) announced on Wednesday that the party's MPs will not support a possible vote of confidence for the Vestea Government.
'We will not vote for the Government when the list and the governing programme are presented. It was a decision with a single abstention, an overwhelming majority. No votes against,' the UDMR leader told a news conference held at the Palace of Parliament.
He added that the UDMR representatives will not be present in the chamber in order to avoid speculation regarding the number of votes cast.
'There were three options. One option was to be present and not vote. I understand that the AUR [Alliance for Romanians' Union], the PNL [National Liberal Party] and the USR [the Save Romania Union] will proceed like this. The second option was to vote against, but no one supported this variant, and I will also tell you why: beyond the fact that we do not want to vote against our former colleagues and, I hope, future colleagues at a later stage, we have no reason to vote against. Then, if there are fewer votes than we have, speculation will start that we did not respect the decision,' Kelemen Hunor said. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Irinela Visan; EN - writing by: Rodica State)
