The National Liberal Party (PNL) will hold an Extraordinary National Council meeting on Friday to convene an Extraordinary Congress of the party for Sunday at 12:00 at Romexpo, the party announced.
'The leadership of the National Liberal Party, meeting in the National Political Bureau session on the afternoon of 17 June, decided - at the proposal of party chairman Ilie Bolojan - to convene the Extraordinary National Council on 19 June 2026 at 17:00, in an online format, with the main objective of calling the Extraordinary Congress of the PNL for 21 June 2026 at 12:00 in Bucharest, at Romexpo,' the party said in a press release.
PNL leader Ilie Bolojan told the National Political Bureau meeting that 'liberals must respond swiftly and decisively to developments affecting the party, so that the PNL can reaffirm its political direction, clarify its message and maintain its credibility in the eyes of members, supporters and Romanians,' the press release added.
The Extraordinary National Council meeting on Friday, attended by 800 liberal delegates, will have on its agenda approval of the Extraordinary Congress scheduled for 21 June and approval of amendments to the PNL statute.
According to the release, 2,500 delegates from across the country will be invited to the Extraordinary Congress, including 500 ex officio delegates and 2,000 delegates elected by local party organisations.
