Nearly 400 oncologists, radiotherapists, urologists, pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, imaging specialists, pathologists and palliative care specialists will gather in Timisoara from 19 to 21 June for the ninth edition of the OncoHelp Summer School Conference, whose main theme will be 'Cancer Immunotherapy, Personalised Medicine and the Multidisciplinary Approach'.
The conference will provide the latest information on immunotherapy, targeted therapies, personalised medicine, clinical trials and the multidisciplinary approach to cancer care.
Professor Dr Serban Negru, President of the OncoHelp Association, said on Wednesday that modern oncology involves not only choosing a treatment but also collaboration between specialties, access to clinical trials and personalised decision-making for each patient. He added that cooperation between medical specialties will be a key topic, highlighting the importance of dedicated teams for different types of cancer.
'Modern oncology is no longer just about selecting a treatment. It involves collaboration between specialties, access to clinical trials, the integration of new technologies and, above all, tailoring decisions to each individual patient. This is precisely why OncoHelp Summer School has evolved from a conference dedicated exclusively to immunotherapy into a comprehensive platform where we discuss the entire journey of the oncology patient, from diagnosis to treatment and, when necessary, palliative care. It is no coincidence that we organise the conference in Timisoara every year following the world's most important event in the field, the annual conference of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). In this way, we aim to share the latest developments in oncology as quickly as possible following our participation in that event,' Professor Dr Serban Negru said, according to a press release.
One of the central themes of this year's edition will be personalised medicine and the role of biomarkers in selecting the most appropriate treatment. New therapeutic standards in lung, breast, digestive, gynaecological and urological cancers will also be discussed, along with the way immunotherapy continues to transform the prognosis of conditions that until recently were considered difficult to treat.
'In recent years, we have witnessed a profound change in the way cancer is treated. We are increasingly talking about therapies tailored to the biological profile of the tumour, biomarkers that help us choose the right treatment and multidisciplinary teams that work together to develop therapeutic strategies, as well as dedicated teams for different types of cancer, as already operates within OncoHelp. Immunotherapy remains one of the most remarkable areas of development, but the progress of modern oncology means much more than that. It means integrating all these resources to give patients the best possible chance,' explained Dr Serban Negru, President of the OncoHelp Association - OncoHelp Oncology Centre Timisoara.
This year's edition of the OncoHelp Summer School will also include sessions dedicated to palliative care, stereotactic radiotherapy, the multidisciplinary management of lung cancer, the role of lifestyle factors and presentations of clinical studies.
