Galati Open Beach Volleyball International Tournament 2026 to be held between 18-21 June

The city of Galati will host the third edition of the 'Galati Open Beach Volleyball International Tournament 2026' between 18 and 21 June, an international beach volleyball competition featuring athletes from Romania and several European countries.

The mayor of Galati, Ionut Pucheanu, announced that the city is opening the summer season in the national beach volleyball circuit by organising this tournament, which has already become a reference competition for Romanian sport.

'A new beach volleyball tournament is starting. Our city is opening the summer season in the national beach volleyball circuit. The 'Galati Open Beach Volleyball 2026' tournament, a spectacle that no longer needs any introduction, will be followed by equally interesting competitions in Sibiu, Oradea or Cluj-Napoca,' Ionut Pucheanu said in a release.

The competition is organised by the Galati City Hall, the Galati Municipal Sports Club and the Romanian Volleyball Federation, with the support of sponsors and partners, and is accredited by the European Volleyball Confederation and the International Volleyball Federation.

The matches will take place in the 'Spicul' Park area, where both men's and women's teams from Romania and abroad will compete. Public access will be free throughout the event.

According to Pucheanu, following the success of the previous edition, organisers have prepared conditions similar to those of major international competitions.

'The sand used for the Open Beach Volleyball 2026 competition is special, much finer than beach sand and the technical standards of the tournament are similar to those of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games,' the mayor mentioned.

The competition will run over four days under the International Volleyball Federation rules, using a double-elimination system. Winning teams advance in the standings, while losing teams get a chance in a decisive match. After two defeats, a team is eliminated.

In the final stages, four teams will compete in the small final and the grand final to determine the final ranking.
