Passengers using public transport in Sibiu will be able to admire contemporary artworks displayed inside buses operated by local company Tursib from Wednesday until the end of summer, as part of the project 'Suflet de Compostor' ('Soul of the Ticket Validator'), included in the programme of the Sibiu International Theatre Festival (FITS), according to a press release.

The 'Suflet de Compostor' project, developed in partnership with the RACOLAJ group, transforms Tursib buses into mobile contemporary art galleries. Starting on Tuesday, more than 50 collages created by artists from the Sibiu-based collective have been displayed on public transport vehicles through large stickers reproducing the original works.

Representatives of local public transport operator Tursib said the initiative is a first for Romania and Eastern Europe and aims to bring art closer to the public in a space used daily by tens of thousands of passengers.

'We want to bring art closer to people, right where they begin their day - on the bus. Sibiu already has a special relationship with art, and we believe public transport can also be part of that story. We appreciate things created with soul and hope our passengers will appreciate them in the same way,' said Tursib general manager Ioan Rus.

The original artworks and the project's central installation can also be seen at an exhibition hosted by the Faculty of Letters and Arts in Sibiu, located at 12 Banatului Street, between 19 and 28 June, with free admission. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the participating artists on Saturday, 20 June, from 18:00.

According to FITS president and actor Constantin Chiriac, this year's edition of the festival, scheduled for 20-29 June, will bring together more than 5,000 artists from 83 countries and feature 848 events, eight more than last year.
