Catalin Predoiu resigns as first vice-president of PNL (sources)

Catalin Predoiu resigned on Wednesday from the position of first vice-president of the PNL, according to liberal sources.

The resignation comes after he took a position in favor of supporting the prime minister-designate Adrian Vestea.

On Monday, Predoiu said that the solution to the current political impasse is a 'reasonable' political compromise by installing the Vestea Government and rebuilding the coalition with a precise deadline, June 2027.

The National Political Bureau of the PNL voted against the party's participation in a Government with the PSD (39 votes 'for', 10 'against', four abstentions), against supporting a Government led by Adrian Vestea (41 votes 'for', 13 'against', two abstentions) and requested that Vestea resign his mandate as prime minister-designate (39 votes 'for', 13 'against', three abstentions).

On Tuesday, the PNL announced that Adrian Vestea is outside the party after failing to observe the ultimatum to resign as prime minister-designate. AGERPRES(RO - writing by: Alina Novăceanu; EN - writing by: Bogdan Gabaroi)
