Romania collected five medals, including two golds, at the European Physics Olympiad (EuPhO 2026), held in Gothenburg, Sweden, from 12 to 16 June.

The Romanian contestants, all students at the International Computer High School of Bucharest, achieved the following results: Alexandru Condrea and Vlad Bolohan won gold medals, Andrei Vila and Bogdan Ciocarlan secured silver medals, while Teodor Bichir received a bronze medal.

At this year's EuPhO 2026, Romania's team leaders were Sebastian Popescu of the Faculty of Physics at the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi and Mihai Vasilescu of the Faculty of Physics at Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca.

The competition brought together students from 41 countries, both European and non-European, the latter participating as guests.

The Ministry of Education and Research supports Romania's national teams by covering participation fees for international Olympiads, travel expenses and daily allowances, as well as by organising and running the local, county, Bucharest-level and national stages preceding these competitions.
