The Romanian Patriarchate and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) announced a EUR 50,000 financial aid package for the Christian community in the Gaza Strip, as well as for other individuals and communities facing severe humanitarian hardship.

Officially titled the 'Gaza Christians Aid Package,' the project will run from June to December 2026 in Gaza City and surrounding areas. The funds, provided by the Romanian Patriarchate in the spirit of Christian solidarity and social responsibility, will be used to supply food, medicines and other essential goods to families in need, with a particular focus on children.

According to the Press Office of the Romanian Patriarchate, the humanitarian initiative is being implemented with the direct coordination and logistical support of the Romanian Embassy in Tel Aviv, which facilitated dialogue and cooperation with Samaritan's Purse, a US-based humanitarian organisation with local infrastructure, enabling the financial assistance to be rapidly converted into direct aid and distributed safely to vulnerable civilians.

The humanitarian assistance project is expected to support around 600 beneficiaries and is structured around four main areas of intervention: food assistance through the preparation and distribution of approximately 2,400 hot meals; educational assistance through the purchase of 200 backpacks fully equipped with school supplies for children; medical assistance through the provision of essential medicines for chronic illnesses and hygiene kits for 200 vulnerable people; and access to drinking water through the purchase and distribution of 10 large water tanks.

The implementation of the project will strictly comply with the international humanitarian principles of impartiality, non-discrimination, protection and the safety of beneficiaries.

'Through this initiative, which complements Romania's systematic efforts in support of the civilian population in the Gaza Strip, we reaffirm our constant commitment to contributing to global humanitarian assistance efforts and protecting communities facing major risks, while maintaining open and constructive dialogue with all international actors involved in stabilising the region,' the Patriarchate said.
