Romanian tennis player Sorana Cirstea defeated young French player Ksenia Efremova (17) 6-3, 6-1 on Sunday evening in Paris, in the first round of the Grand Slam tournament at Roland Garros.
Cirstea (36), world number 18, needed one hour and ten minutes to overcome her opponent, who is ranked 625th in the world and had received a wild card entry.
The Romanian player, seeded 18th, did not take part in last year's edition of the competition.
Sorana Cirstea earned a cheque worth 130,000 euros and 70 WTA ranking points for progressing past the first round, and in the second round she will face the winner of the match between Croatian player Petra Marcinko and German player Eva Lys.
