Romania will support the adoption of an ambitious European budget that maintains overall funding levels for Cohesion Policy and the Common Agricultural Policy, the Presidential Administration announced following a working meeting convened on Friday by President Nicusor Dan regarding the Multiannual Financial Framework, ahead of the European Council meeting on October 15-16.

'In preparation for the European Council meeting on October 15-16—where one of the main topics of discussion will be the European Union's future Multiannual Financial Framework—the President of Romania, Nicusor Dan, held a working meeting on Friday attended by government members, technical experts from the ministries, and Romania's Permanent Representative to the European Union,' the Presidential Administration announced in a statement sent to AGERPRES.

The working meeting aimed to coordinate the national position ahead of negotiations among European leaders, given that the future Multiannual Financial Framework will determine the budget for the 2028-2034 period—thereby directly influencing Romania's economic development prospects through the resources available for investment, infrastructure, agriculture, and regional development—according to the cited source.

'Romania will support the adoption of an ambitious European budget that maintains overall funding levels for Cohesion Policy and the Common Agricultural Policy—two essential instruments for narrowing development gaps between member states, as well as for modernizing the agricultural sector, developing rural communities, and strengthening food security. At the same time, Romania will advocate for funding to strengthen European defense capabilities—with particular attention paid to the Eastern Flank and the strategic Black Sea region—as well as for policies aimed at regaining competitiveness and reducing strategic dependencies in the energy and advanced technology sectors,' the statement reads.
