Prime Minister-designate Siegfried Muresan said that at a meeting with President Nicusor Dan at Cotroceni Palace on Friday he presented the head of state with his governing programme, which he is to submit to Parliament together with his list of ministers.
'I had a meeting with the president of Romania, which we had agreed to hold when I was designated, and I presented him with the governing programme. That was the purpose of the meeting and I believe that objective was achieved. I presented the governing programme to the president in detail, and my next steps now are to finalise the structure of the government and for the three parties supporting the government to nominate their ministers,' Siegfried Muresan told Europa FM on Friday.
He was asked whether he had requested a public message from the president in support of the government that will be submitted to Parliament for approval.
'I am a politician who stands on his own two feet, and it is my responsibility, together with the three parties supporting me, to secure a parliamentary majority. I never ask other politicians for help. The president has his constitutional role in this process; he designated me, and now it is my responsibility to go before Parliament with the programme and the Cabinet,' Muresan specified.
Asked whether the president had promised to help him secure the votes needed for the government's investiture in Parliament, Muresan invoked respect for institutional roles.
'I believe we must respect institutions, and for that reason it would not be appropriate towards the president of Romania for me to speak on his behalf. The purpose of the meeting was to present him with the governing programme, because that is the new element, that is what we have been working on throughout this week, and that objective was achieved,' Muresan said.
