President Nicusor Dan sent a message on Sunday at an event held at the Maryhill Museum of Art in Goldendale, Washington State, marking the 100th anniversary of the museum's opening, highlighting the institution's role in promoting Romanian culture and strengthening cultural relations between Romania and the United States.

The message from the head of state was delivered by Eugen Tomac, Honorary Adviser for Relations with Romanians Abroad within the Department for Foreign Policy, Strategic Partnerships and Romanians Abroad.

'The Royal Centenary celebrated at the Maryhill Museum of Art marks not only the anniversary of an important moment in the history of a cultural institution. It represents the celebration of a bond that has brought Romania and the United States closer through culture, heritage and mutual respect. Through the Romanian heritage it safeguards, through exhibitions dedicated to Romania and Queen Maria, and through its cultural activities, the Maryhill Museum of Art has contributed to promoting Romanian culture and deepening the longstanding ties between Romania and the United States. Today, Maryhill represents a true cultural bridge between the two countries, built over time through art, shared history, dialogue and cooperation,' the President's message stated.

In this context, the awarding of the Order of Cultural Merit, in rank of Knight, to the Maryhill Museum of Art represents Romania's recognition of its contribution to preserving and promoting this heritage, as well as to strengthening Romanian-American cultural relations, the press release added.

'I express my profound appreciation to all those who, through their work, have contributed to preserving this heritage and ensuring that Romanian culture continues to be known and appreciated across the Atlantic,' Nicusor Dan also said.

He stressed that, a century after the museum was opened by Queen Maria, Romania and the United States have a relationship founded on shared values, trust and ties that extend beyond the institutional framework.

'Culture remains one of the most enduring ways in which this closeness is expressed and maintained,' the head of state added.

The President concluded his message by expressing his appreciation for the role of the Maryhill Museum of Art in safeguarding Romanian heritage and strengthening the relationship between Romania and the United States of America.
