The number of dwellings completed nationwide rose to 31,958 units in the first six months of this year, compared with 24,609 in the same period of 2025, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS) data published on Monday.

By area of residence, most dwellings were completed in urban areas in the first half of 2026, accounting for 59.7% of the total. The breakdown by source of financing for completed dwellings shows that, in the first half of 2026 compared with the first half of 2025, the number of dwellings built with private funds increased (+7,832 dwellings), while the number of those built with public funds decreased (-483 homes).

The regional breakdown highlights an increase in the number of completed dwellings in the following development regions: Bucharest-Ilfov (+3,762), West (+1,701), Central (+1,163), North-West (+887), South-Muntenia (+376), North-East (+316) and South-West Oltenia (+6). In the South-East development region, the number of completed dwellings fell (-862).

According to the INS, 20,082 dwellings were completed in the second quarter of 2026, an increase of 6,435 units compared with the second quarter of 2025.

By area of residence, most dwellings were built in urban areas in the second quarter of 2026 (63.9%).

The breakdown of completed dwellings by source of financing shows that in the second quarter of 2026, compared with the second quarter of 2025, the number of dwellings built with private funds increased by 6,697, while the number of those built with public funds decreased by 262.

The regional breakdown shows an increase in the number of completed dwellings in seven of the eight development regions: Bucharest-Ilfov (+3,745 dwellings), Central (+1,168), West (+952), North-West (+616), South-Muntenia (+345), South-West Oltenia (+183) and North-East (+169).
