A drone crashed on Saturday in a cornfield near the village of Botosenita Mare, Suceava County; the impact created a crater approximately 1 meter in diameter and 30 centimeters deep, the Ministry of National Defence announced.
According to the Ministry, on Saturday, the Air Operations Centers of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova informed the Ministry of National Defence that a drone had crossed the airspace of both countries, heading towards northeastern Romania.
Two Romanian Air Force F-16 aircraft took off from the Borcea 86th Air Base to monitor the situation.
The National Military Command Center notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations regarding the need to alert the population in Botosani County; a RO-ALERT message was issued at 16:20.
During the same period, the presence of a drone over the village of Stiubieni, Botosani County, was reported via the 112 emergency service.
Following reconnaissance conducted by Ministry of Internal Affairs forces, a crashed flying object was identified in a cornfield near the village of Botosenita Mare, Suceava County. The impact caused a small fire and created a crater approximately 1 meter in diameter and 30 centimeters deep, the Ministry of National Defence stated.
No casualties were reported.
An explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team from the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) is en route to the site to assess the situation.
The Suceava Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU) also reported that a citizen called the 112 emergency service to say an unidentified object had apparently fallen into a cornfield.
'Following a 112 call from a citizen reporting that an unidentified object had apparently fallen into a cornfield near the village of Botosenita Mare, in Calafindesti Commune, military firefighter crews and other Ministry of Internal Affairs units deployed to the indicated area to conduct a reconnaissance. The site has been cordoned off, and specialists from the relevant agencies are expected to arrive to assess the situation. Investigations are being conducted by the competent authorities under the coordination of a prosecutor from the Suceava Court of Appeal Prosecutor's Office,' ISU reported.
