President Nicusor Dan conveyed to Eurogroup President Kyriakos Pierrakakis—whom he received on Friday at Cotroceni Palace—that Romania supports an ambitious European budget.

'I held a discussion today with Eurogroup President Kyriakos Pierrakakis regarding the future European Union budget. Romania supports an ambitious European budget that addresses shared priorities and the need for investment in Europe's development. We also discussed the digitalization of tax administration and measures to increase collection efficiency and reduce tax evasion. The experience of member states and European cooperation can help us make faster progress in this area,' the head of state wrote on the X platform.

Eurogroup President Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Minister of Economy and Finance of the Hellenic Republic, was received on Friday at Cotroceni Palace by President Nicusor Dan.

'It is good that you are here; it is good that we have a good relationship,' the head of state told him, according to footage released by the Presidential Administration.

In turn, Pierrakakis touched upon bilateral relations.

'We have a very interesting diaspora in Romania; I am very proud of it. Personally speaking, my best friend is half-Romanian. My Prime Minister asked me to convey his greetings to you. I hope we can see how to collaborate in the future. We have a phenomenal technology industry ecosystem,' he stated.

The members of the Eurogroup are the finance and economy ministers of the countries belonging to the euro area.

This summer, the Eurogroup adopted its work programme running until June 2027, outlining its priorities for the coming months. The programme focuses on boosting competitiveness and strengthening economic sovereignty, responding to emerging economic challenges—including energy and artificial intelligence—mobilizing capital through financial integration, and reinforcing the international, digital, and strategic role of the euro.
