Following Cosmin Ghita's announcement that he resigns as Nuclearelectrica CEO, the government said that after the notice period, a selection process will be launched to appoint a new head of the nuclear power producer.

Government spokesperson Ioana Dogioiu said on Tuesday that 'resignation is a unilateral act of will' and that Ghita's contract includes a 90-day notice period, which may be shortened by mutual agreement. After that, a selection procedure for a new CEO will take place.

Nuclearelectrica announced earlier on Tuesday that CEO Cosmin Ghita has requested the termination of his mandate contract and will communicate the exact date on which the resignation takes effect.

According to the company's notice to the Bucharest Stock Exchange, 'on 25 August 2026, Nuclearelectrica was notified of Mr. Cosmin Ghita's request to terminate the mandate contract concluded with SN Nuclearelectrica SA. The company will communicate the effective date on which the resignation will produce its effects.'

Ghita has led Nuclearelectrica since 2 September 2017, initially under a four-month interim mandate. He was later appointed CEO with a four-year term starting 11 February 2019, and his current mandate began on 12 February 2023, scheduled to run until 12 February 2027.
