The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) increased from eight to 11 the number of counties which will be under a code orange warning for scorching heat over the next 24 hours.
According to updates issued on Thursday, until 10:00 on Friday morning, temperatures in Banat, Crisana, western and southern Oltenia, south-western Muntenia and south-western Transylvania will be exceptionally high, ranging from 35 to 39 degrees, with the highest values in the far west and south-west.
There will be a heatwave and significant thermal discomfort, while the temperature-humidity index (THI) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. In some areas, the night will be tropical, with minimum temperatures of 20 to 26 degrees.
The counties under the orange warning are Teleorman, Olt, Dolj, Mehedinti, Caras-Severin, Hunedoara, Alba, Arad, Timis, Bihor and Satu Mare.
Meanwhile, a code yellow warning for exceptionally high temperatures, heatwave conditions, thermal discomfort and tropical nights is in effect across the rest of the country, with the exception of Constanta and Tulcea counties.
Thus, on Thursday, in Moldavia, Maramures, most of Transylvania and Muntenia and northern Oltenia, maximum temperatures will be exceptionally high, generally ranging from 34 to 37 degrees. Heatwave conditions and thermal discomfort will affect extensive areas, while the temperature-humidity index (THI) will reach and slightly exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. In some areas, minimum temperatures will not fall below 20 degrees, resulting in a tropical night.
Furthermore, from 10:00 on Thursday morning until 10:00 on Monday, 24 August, a weather advisory warns of a heatwave that will spread and intensify across most of the country. Maximum temperatures will be exceptionally high, generally ranging from 34 to 39 degrees, with the highest values in the west and south-west.
There will be heatwave conditions and significant thermal discomfort, while the temperature-humidity index (THI) will reach and exceed the critical threshold of 80 units across extensive areas.
