Romania's trade exchanges with the United States exceeded USD 7.8 billion in 2025, continuing the upward trend of recent years, the Romanian Embassy in Washington said on Thursday in a Facebook post.

The Embassy noted that Romanian exports to the U.S. reached USD 5 billion, compared with USD 3.4 billion in 2021, while imports totalled USD 2.8 billion, giving Romania a surplus in bilateral trade. Key export categories include industrial equipment, automotive-industry products, consumer goods, as well as IT and business services.

In regional context, Romania's current trade volume places it ahead of countries such as Lithuania (approx. USD 5.2 billion), Bulgaria and Slovenia (approx. USD 4 billion), and Croatia (approx. USD 3 billion). Larger economies - including Poland (approx. USD 39 billion), Hungary (approx. USD 8 billion) and the Czech Republic (approx. USD 16.6 billion) - continue to record higher overall volumes.

The Embassy added that the data 'indicate a gradual diversification of the economic relationship between Romania and the United States and the existence of additional potential for cooperation in industry, technology, services and within transatlantic supply chains.'
