Actor and director Daniele Salvo, a name closely associated with major Shakespeare productions at Rome's Globe Theatre, including 'Julius Caesar', 'The Tempest', 'King Lear', 'Othello' and 'Macbeth', will be in Buzau for the Comic 7 B International Independent Theatre Festival, where the national premiere of the staged reading 'Lady Shakespeare' will take place.

The Comic 7 B theatre festival will be held as part of the sixth edition of the Buzau International Arts Festival (BIAF), an event bringing audiences, over four weeks, a series of films, theatre productions, visual arts events, performances and internationally renowned guests.

'An actor and director, Daniele trained in Turin under the guidance of legendary director Luca Ronconi, with whom he worked for around 17 years as an actor, assistant director and collaborating director. He furthered his training at the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon, which may explain his passion for the works of The Bard. He has directed an impressive number of major productions in Italy and abroad, ranging from Shakespeare and Greek tragedy to Pirandello, Bergman, Hemingway, Bulgakov and contemporary playwrights. His name is closely associated with major Shakespeare productions at Rome's Globe Theatre, where he directed ‘Julius Caesar', ‘The Tempest', ‘King Lear', ‘Othello' and ‘Macbeth'. And now a director of such calibre is coming to Buzau to stage a national premiere! The staged reading ‘Lady Shakespeare', featuring Olimpia Melinte and Vlad Udrescu, will be brought to the stage, with the text coming to life before the audience,' the BIAF organisers said in a press release.

Daniele Salvo has also served as artistic director of the 'Amenanos' International Festival of Classical Theatre and, in 2026, was reconfirmed for a third consecutive year as artistic director of the Segni Barocchi Festival. Audiences will have the opportunity to see a story about William Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway, exploring love, jealousy, marriage, theatre and mystery.

'We know the plays, we know the verses, we know the portraits. But Anne Hathaway, the woman with whom he lived, quarrelled and divided his time between London and Stratford for almost 25 years, remained in the shadow of the legend. Until now. ‘Lady Shakespeare', a play by Franco-Swiss playwright Anca Visdei, is based on intimate correspondence between the two - mysterious, impossible to authenticate with certainty, but vivid enough to call into question everything we think we know. Love, jealousy, theatre, long absences, marital irony and, somewhere in the middle, the question that invisibly hovers over it all: who was the man behind the legend, really? The production does not offer an answer. Anca Visdei deliberately moves between fact and fiction, leaving the audience to decide where one ends and the other begins. It is a rare honesty in theatre,' the same source said.
