Romania's Constitutional Court (CCR) has ruled that an amendment introduced into the Integrity Law at the request of the Social Democratic Party and the Alliance for the Unity of Romanians - providing for the automatic loss of office for elected officials found incompatible or in conflict of interest - is constitutional.
With a majority vote, CCR validated the provision stipulating that tenure of a public office or dignity terminates by law 30 days after the legislation enters into force.
Representatives of the Save Romania Union argued that the amendment targets the party's leader, Dominic Fritz, who is subject to a final ruling establishing a conflict of interest. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Eusebi Manolache; EN - writing by: Simona Klodnischi)
