Artificial intelligence (AI) in lung ultrasound will be, for the first time, among the topics of the PNEUMOPED 2026 National Conference on paediatric pulmonology, which will bring together more than 500 doctors from Romania and abroad in Timisoara from 7 to 10 October.
The 8th edition of the event, held under the aegis of the International Society of Pediatric Respiratory Diseases - INSPiRED, will feature practical courses, scientific sessions, case presentations, debates and current topics in paediatric respiratory disease.
'For the first time, Artificial Intelligence in lung ultrasound will be among the topics of the conference this year. Paediatric pulmonology has changed considerably in recent years. We have new diagnostic methods, therapies that were not available a few years ago and new information is constantly emerging, requiring us to adapt our medical practice. We will talk about pneumonia and asthma, conditions we encounter very frequently, as well as asthma and obesity, new therapies for cystic fibrosis and modern diagnostic techniques. These are areas that can change the way we assess and treat children with respiratory diseases. But regardless of technology, guidelines and protocols, the child must remain at the centre of all our decisions,' Ioana Ciuca, president of the conference, a senior paediatric pulmonologist and coordinator of the Paediatric Pulmonology Department at the Timisoara County Emergency Clinical Hospital, said on Tuesday, according to a press release.
The conference will be attended by paediatric pulmonologists, paediatricians, pulmonologists, family doctors, allergists, medical residents, medical students and specialists from related areas.
The first day will be dedicated to pre-conference courses, with practical applications, held at the Bega Paediatrics Clinic in Timisoara. The following three days will feature the conference proceedings, covering classic topics in paediatric pulmonology, but also subjects at the forefront of medical research and practice.
PNEUMOPED is not just a conference, but a place where we discuss cases, share experiences and try to bring into our practice what is new in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases in children. It is a place where experienced doctors meet younger generations, and this exchange is extremely important for the development of paediatric pulmonology, according to Ioana Ciuca.
The conference programme also includes scientific presentations by medical residents and students. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Otilia Halunga; EN - writing by: Rodica State)
