Romanian firefighters deployed to France and Greece have carried out operations, including overnight, as part of pre-positioning missions in the two countries, where activities have been continuously adapted to the operational situation and the risk of wildfires.
'In France, the activity of the Romanian firefighters was predominantly operational. The crews of the RO-GFFF-V module intervened to extinguish several fire outbreaks that had emerged between the towns of Correns, Montfort, Le Val and Carces,' the press office of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) said.
The Romanian firefighters also assisted in supplying water to French fire engines operating in hard-to-reach mountainous areas, supporting operations using hose lines approximately one kilometre long.
The missions continued throughout the night, including firefighting, water supply, patrol and reconnaissance operations. Following an assessment of the operational situation together with the French authorities, the same types of missions were also maintained for Sunday.
Joint exercise and patrol missions carried out in high wildfire-risk areas in Greece
'To test specific procedures and the endurance of teamwork, the Romanian firefighters, together with the French module, conducted a joint exercise simulating a wildfire spreading to a building, with three people trapped inside. The crews involved worked to extinguish the fire, search for and evacuate the victims, and provide first aid,' the same source said.
On Sunday, amid an increase in the fire risk to level 4, the RO-GFFF-V module carried out a patrol mission in the north-eastern area of Nea Makri, together with Greek firefighters and liaison officers. The mission ended without any incidents requiring the intervention of the Romanian forces.
Also over the weekend, Greek representatives presented the Romanian and French firefighters with an application used by Greek firefighters to manage operational information, coordinate and monitor resources, and support decision-making during emergency operations.
