The public is invited to take part in a month-long programme of events from 14 August to 11 September as part of the sixth edition of the Buzau International Arts Festival (BIAF), featuring theatre, film, visual arts and live performances.
This year's special guest is actor George Mihaita.
Events will be held in the Crang Park, at the 'George Ciprian' Centre for Culture and Performing Arts, the 'I.C. Bratianu' Museum Centre, the Art Galleries, the Youth Park, the Iazul Morilor Exhibition Centre, as well as along Buzau's boulevards and in the city's squares. Cultural caravans will also travel to Ramnicu Sarat, offering concerts, film screenings and theatre performances, including shows for children, with additional caravans visiting Nehoiu, Bisoca, Magura and Pogoanele.
'The BIAF is built on a simple principle that is difficult to replicate: audiences become part of a living cultural ecosystem that creates, experiments and presents itself to the public at the same time. That is why the BIAF is much more than a festival in Buzau, it is a European cultural hub that takes place in Buzau. The BIAF 2026 is not a single festival, but a festival of festivals. Under the same artistic umbrella, over these four weeks, the following will take place simultaneously: an international film competition (BUZZ IFF), an international independent theatre festival (COMIC 7 B), a visual arts and photography programme, street art, literature and, because art has no minimum age, performances and workshops dedicated to children,' the BIAF organisers conveyed in a press release.
The special guest of the sixth edition of the theatre and film festival is actor George Mihaita.
'The meeting with the audience will be a direct one, moderated by Irina Margareta Nistor, in the spirit that has defined the BIAF since its first edition: face to face, without any artificial distance between the artist and the audience. At the end of August, the festival will also host the second edition of the conference called 'Ok, deci ce mai e cultura?' ['Ok, so what else is culture?'] - an evening of debate featuring leading figures from the cultural sector,' the organisers informed.
This year's edition is expected to attract more than 100,000 participants, including from Braila, Galati, Focsani, Ploiesti, Campina, Constanta and Tulcea. Access to most events will be free.
Over its five years of existence, the festival has brought hundreds of renowned guests before the public, including Armand Assante, Franco Nero, Raoul Bova, Michele Placido, Marcel Iures and Irina Margareta Nistor.
