The retail turnover volume (excluding trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles) decreased in the first half of this year compared with the same period in 2025, both as gross series, by 5.6% and by 5.7%, as series adjusted according to the number of working days and seasonality, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS) data published on Thursday.
According to the INS, the retail trade developments in the first six months of the year, as gross series, were driven by declines in sales of non-food products (-7.3%), sales of food, beverages and tobacco (-4.2%) and retail sales of automotive fuel in specialised stores (-4%).
As series adjusted according to the number of working days and seasonality, the decrease was determined by declines in sales of non-food products (-7.5%), sales of food, beverages and tobacco (-4.3%) and retail sales of automotive fuel in specialised stores (-2.6%).
According to the statistics, the retail turnover volume (excluding trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles), as gross series, increased overall by 0.5% in June 2026 compared with the previous month, due to increases in retail sales of automotive fuel in specialised stores (+6.6%) and sales of non-food products (+0.8%). Sales of food, beverages and tobacco decreased by 3.1%.
The retail turnover volume (excluding trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles), as series adjusted according to the number of working days and seasonality, decreased overall by 1.2% in June 2026 compared with the previous month, as a result of declines in sales of food, beverages and tobacco (-2.3%), retail sales of automotive fuel in specialised stores (-0.9%) and sales of non-food products (-0.4%).
Compared with June 2025, the retail turnover volume (excluding trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles), as gross series, decreased overall by 5.7%, as a result of declines recorded in retail sales of automotive fuel in specialised stores (-8.6%), sales of food, beverages and tobacco (-6.3%) and sales of non-food products (-4.1%).
The retail turnover volume (excluding trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles), as series adjusted according to the number of working days and seasonality, decreased overall by 7.3% in June 2026 compared with June 2025, as a result of declines in sales of food, beverages and tobacco (-7.3%), sales of non-food products (-6.4%) and retail sales of automotive fuel in specialised stores (-5.8%).
