Romanian firefighters from the specialised modules continue to operate in the French Republic and the Hellenic Republic, as part of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, carrying out both operational missions to extinguish vegetation and forest fires and activities dedicated to the exchange of experience and the strengthening of interoperability with international partners.

On Wednesday, the Romanian module deployed in the French Republic operated continuously in its assigned intervention sector, alongside French and Serbian teams, contributing to the containment and extinguishing of wildfires. Romanian crews took part in identifying and extinguishing a fire that broke out in the inhabited area of Montfort, while also ensuring water supplies for French and Serbian fire engines deployed in the area, as well as for a helicopter involved in aerial firefighting missions, the Inspectorate General for Emergency Situations (IGSU) Press Office informed on Thursday.

The cooperation with French and Serbian partners once again highlighted the effective functioning of the European Civil Protection Mechanism and the importance of mutual support in managing large-scale emergency situations, the IGSU emphasised.

French specialists within the Detachement d'Intervention Heliporte (DIH) held a presentation on the organisation and conduct of aerial interventions, as well as the specific safety measures implemented during such operations.

Also on Wednesday, in Greece, the module personnel carried out training activities at the operational base in Nea Makri, where a presentation was held on complex interventions carried out by Romanian firefighters in Romania.

'The Romanian firefighters, together with their Greek counterparts and colleagues from the French module, organised activities presenting the specialised vehicles and intervention equipment they use. On this occasion, the technical and tactical features, operational capabilities and the way the equipment is used in vegetation and forest fire suppression operations were highlighted,' the quoted source mentioned.

These activities contributed to the exchange of best practices, the strengthening of interoperability between the participating teams and the development of international cooperation in the area of civil protection.

Throughout the programme, the Romanian module maintained its operational capacity, with personnel and equipment prepared for intervention depending on developments in the operational situation and requests from the Greek authorities.
