A go-kart track described by its developers as the most technical in Romania was opened on Wednesday in Miercurea-Ciuc, following a private investment aimed at supporting both high-performance athlete training and tourism development in Harghita County.

Hargita Karting spokesperson Baloga Sándor said at the opening that the 1.1-km outdoor track was built starting in spring 2025. The facility currently operates 24 karts across all age categories, for both professional and amateur use, including double karts, as well as six state-of-the-art simulators, described by project representatives as the most advanced in the country.

The track will serve as the training base for national champion Búzás Gergö and other elite drivers, while also becoming a new tourist attraction for the county.

Baloga Sándor noted that, with Harghita set to become European Gastronomic Region in 2027, visitors 'need not only excellent restaurants, hotels, guesthouses and lodges, but also high-quality recreational opportunities'.

Miercurea-Ciuc mayor Korodi Attila, attending the inauguration, said he is convinced the investment will support local tourism.

'I am convinced that for Miercurea-Ciuc this investment will mean more overnight stays in the city's hotels and guesthouses, and a new reference point for tourists who will then use all other available facilities,' Korodi said.
