Romania is extending for another two weeks the mission of its firefighters' contingent in France under a decision taken on Monday by the National Emergency Management Committee (CNSU).

According to the government, following the request made by the French authorities by activating the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, CNSU approved, in Monday's meeting, the extension for another two weeks of Romania's participation in the support mission for extinguishing vegetation and forest fires in France.

Under the coordination of the Emergency Management Department (DSU), the mission will continue by replacing the contingent currently in France with a new contingent of firefighters from the General Emergency Management Inspectorate (IGSU), which will take over operational responsibilities in the areas affected by the fires.

The decision is said to reflect Romania's solidarity with European partners and its commitment to contributing to the management of emergencies within the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.
