Romanian students won one gold medal, three silver medals and two bronze medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad, held in Shanghai, China, with the participation of 666 contestants from more than 120 countries.

The Romanian students who won medals at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad are: David-Vlad Marghidan, International School of Informatics, Bucharest - gold medal;
Mihai Alexandru Ardelean, 'Onisifor Ghibu' National College, Oradea, Bihor County - silver medal; Radu Ionut-Stoleriu, 'Emil Racovita' National College, Iasi - silver medal; David Ghibu, International School of Informatics, Bucharest - silver medal; Emanuel Mazare, 'Alexandru Odobescu' National College, Pitesti, Arges County - bronze medal; Andrei Vila, International School of Informatics, Bucharest - bronze medal.

The Romanian team was led by Associate Professor Catalin Gherghe, PhD, from the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Bucharest (Team Leader), Lecturer Mihai Chis from the Faculty of Computer Science in Timisoara (Deputy Leader), and Lucian Turea of the Romanian Mathematical Sciences Society.

'Congratulations to the students, their teachers and their parents, who have supported them every step of the way!' the Ministry of Education said on its Facebook page on Monday.

At the Ministry of Education and Research, the Olympiad was coordinated by the Directorate for Olympiads, Competitions, Partnerships and Extracurricular Education, through Professor Elisabeta Ana Nagy, Ministry of Education inspector.

The Ministry of Education and Research supports the participation of Romania's national teams in international Olympiads by covering participation fees, travel expenses and daily allowances, as well as by organising and running the preceding stages of these competitions, including the local, county, Bucharest municipal and national rounds.
