President of the Save Romania Union (USR) Dominic Fritz announced that he met with US Ambassador to Romania Darryl Nirenberg, whom he discussed with the current political situation and the rule of law.

'Darryl Nirenberg, the US ambassador to Romania, is not a career diplomat. He worked for the US Congress, then as a lawyer and lobbyist. Perhaps that is why he does not get lost in formalities, does not use routine language, but is direct, curious and human. I welcomed him for a visit at the USR headquarters and we had a long, open discussion about the current political situation, the rule of law in Romania and the values that unite us,' the USR leader wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.



Fritz mentioned that Darryl Nirenberg is 'an important friend' of our country and that he expressed his gratitude for Romania's good cooperation with the US, as well as within NATO and the EU.

'I expressed my concerns, but I also shared what made me fall irrevocably in love with Romania. His questions reminded me of the fascination with which foreigners look at us. It is a strength we have but are still not sufficiently aware of. The ambassador's gratitude for Romania's good international cooperation, as a loyal ally of the US, NATO and the EU, was sincere. I promised to pass it on to the USR ministers Oana Toiu and Radu Miruta as well. I also thank him. A good man who has quickly become an important friend of Romania,' the USR leader added.
