Annual inflation rate falls to 10.42% in June from 10.85% in May, with services rising by 13.67%, non-food goods by 12.29% and food goods by 5.75%, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS) data published on Monday.

'The consumer price index in June 2026 compared with May 2026 was 100.06%. The inflation rate since the beginning of the year (June 2026 compared with December 2025) was 3.8%. The annual inflation rate in June 2026 compared with June 2025 was 10.4%. The average change in consumer prices over the past 12 months (July 2025 - June 2026) compared with the previous 12 months (July 2024 - June 2025) was 9.8%,' the INS release mentioned.

According to the quoted source, the harmonised index of consumer prices in June 2026 compared with May 2026 was 99.94%. The annual inflation rate in June 2026 compared with June 2025, calculated based on the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), was 9.2%. The average change in consumer prices over the past 12 months (July 2025 - June 2026) compared with the previous 12 months (July 2024 - June 2025), calculated based on the HICP, was 8.6%.

The National Bank of Romania (BNR) revised upwards its inflation forecast for the end of 2026 to 5.5%, from 3.9% previously, and expects it to reach 2.9% by the end of 2027, according to data presented in May by BNR Governor Mugur Isarescu.
