As many as 40 Romanian firefighters are leaving for France today to replace their colleagues already on French soil, where they participate in missions under the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.

'The replacement of staff will take place on July 16, when the 40 Romanian firefighters who make up the new contingent will take over the operational responsibilities from the colleagues currently in the field. The response technique of the Romanian module is already deployed in France and used in operational activities, so that the new contingent will directly take over, in the base of operations, the special vehicles, equipment and assigned missions,' according to the General Emergency Management Inspectorate (IGSU).

By the end of July, the Romanian firefighters will be ready to respond at the request of the French authorities, to contain and extinguish the vegetation and forest fires, together with the other participating European teams.

This mission is said to reconfirm Romania's commitment to European solidarity and international cooperation in the field of civil protection, contributing to strengthening the common response capacity in periods of high risk of forest fires.
