Ukraine must be able to negotiate peace from a position of strength, President Nicusor Dan said on Monday, after participating in the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in Paris.
According to him, Romania's immediate priority remains ensuring freedom of navigation and protecting trade routes in the Black Sea.
''I participated in the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, hosted in Paris by the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron. The discussions between the members of the Coalition reconfirmed the reasons why Europe and our partners, who share the same values, must remain involved in building a solid framework of security guarantees for Ukraine. As we move forward with concrete actions and coordinated planning, our joint efforts must remain focused on achieving a ceasefire and, ultimately, a just, lasting and sustainable peace,' President Nicusor Dan wrote on Facebook.
According to the head of state, Romania will continue to act as a responsible ally and a trusted partner in support of this objective.

''Our immediate priority remains ensuring freedom of navigation and protecting trade routes in the Black Sea. Investing in Ukraine's defense and security is an investment in our own security, and Ukraine must be able to negotiate peace from a position of strength,'' President Nicusor Dan noted.
At the same time, he also argued for paying specific attention to the security of the Republic of Moldova.
''In this regard, I am pleased with the participation for the first time and the accession of the Republic of Moldova starting today to the meeting of the Coalition of Wills,'' President Nicusor Dan also said.
The Coalition of Wills for Ukraine, a format launched in 2025 and coordinated by the French Republic and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, brings together 35 states committed to supporting Ukraine through solid security guarantees. The coalition aims to contribute, after the conclusion of an agreement between the parties involved in the conflict, to maintaining peace and preventing a new aggression against Ukraine.
President Nicusor Dan is in Paris on Monday and Tuesday, at the invitation of his counterpart Emmanuel Macron, to participate in the meeting of the Coalition of Willingness for Ukraine and in the ceremonies dedicated to the National Day of the French Republic.
