Members of the jury of the 2026 George Enescu International Competition, together with former laureates and distinguished international guests, will give six chamber recitals at the Romanian Athenaeum between September 4 and 18.
The programme spans more than two centuries of music, from Bach, Beethoven, Schumann and Brahms to Bartók, Prokofiev and Ravel, highlighting refined chamber repertoire, virtuosity and intergenerational artistic dialogue, cultural events organiser ARTEXIM said in a press release.
On September 4, German-born cellist Claudio Bohórquez (who sits on the Cello Section jury) and pianist Peter Nagy will perform an all-Schumann repertoire: Fantasiestücke, Romanzen, Märchenbilder and the Dichterliebe cycle.
On September 6, violinist Mihaela Martin - chair of the Violin Section jury - cellist Frans Helmerson, violist Miguel da Silva and pianist Enrico Pace will present Beethoven's String Trio Op. 9 No. 3, Grieg's Sonata No. 2 and the Piano Quartet No. 1 by Brahms.
On September 10, Serbian violinist Nemanja Radulovic, winner of the 2001 Enescu Competition and current jury member, returns with pianist Laure Favre-Kahn, in works by Bartók, Franck, Prokofiev and Ravel.
September 12 will see violinist Alissa Margulis (jury member), pianist Alexei Volodin and cellist Stefan Cazacu (2020 - 2021 laureate) perform Beethoven's Kreutzer Sonata and Tchaikovsky's Trio in A minor.
The September 16 bill has pianist Marie-Ange Nguci (jury member) and violinist Hyeonjeong Lee (2024 laureate) offering a programme that includes Ravel, Ysaÿe, Beethoven, Liszt and Prokofiev.
On September 18, Argentinian pianist Nelson Goerner, one of the leading interpreters of the Romantic repertoire and a 2026 jury member, closes the series with Bach's Toccata in C minor, Schumann's Fantasie in C major and Schubert's Sonata in C minor D.958.
Tickets and subscriptions are available exclusively via Eventim.ro and in Carturesti and Humanitas bookstores. Individual tickets start at RON 75, with discounts for students, pupils and pensioners. A recital subscription grants access to all six concerts.
The 2026 George Enescu International Competition will take place in Bucharest between August 23 and September 19. Organized by ARTEXIM, the anniversary edition carries the theme 'In Search of Excellence'. The competition is funded by the Romanian Government through the Ministry of Culture and held under the High Patronage of the President of Romania. ArtProduction Foundation serves as co-organizer.
