AGERPRES special correspondent Oana Ghita reports: President Nicusor Dan reaffirmed Romania's support for Ukraine at the NATO Summit in Ankara.
In a press conference at the end of the meeting, the Romanian president said he also raised the situation in the Republic of Moldova and asked partners to contribute to strengthening this country's defence capabilities.
Nicusor Dan further underlined the strategic importance of the Black Sea within the Alliance. 'In the Black Sea, both we and Turkey are about to produce gas,' he brought to mind.
He also highlighted another aspect of the Black Sea's strategic role: 'The Black Sea is Europe's gateway for Caspian-region energy. And here, through an agreement signed with Turkey and Bulgaria during the summit, the demining operation has been extended to critical infrastructure, including Neptun Deep and its connection to the shore. I informed the allies about the progress made with Bulgaria on the civil-security hub and invited partners to join the initiative. The Black Sea will also serve as an interface between Europe and the Caspian region.'
According to the president, another 'positive thing for Romania' is reflected in the Ankara Summit Declaration, which reaffirms that the Russian Federation remains the main threat to the North Atlantic Alliance.
The president stressed that the Ankara Summit was marked by cooperation from all sides - both the American delegation and representatives of European states.
'It was a collaborative atmosphere, with the questions I mentioned: how to speed up the transfer of funds into equipment, how to bring in new technologies, how to reduce bureaucratic processes,' Nicusor Dan added. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Antonia Nita; EN - writing by: Simona Klodnischi)
