The Romanian Red Cross is marking 150 years of humanitarian service with an anniversary gala taking place on Thursday at the Romanian Athenaeum.
The event will highlight the organisation's contribution to the development of Romanian society and its essential role in responding to emergencies, providing humanitarian assistance, promoting health education, and supporting vulnerable communities.
According to a press release sent to AGERPRES, the gala will bring together representatives of public authorities, the diplomatic corps, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, institutional partners, sponsors, volunteers, and employees of the organisation.
During the gala, an overview of the organisation's principal achievements over the past 150 years will be presented, together with the impact that the Romanian Red Cross's mission has had on the millions of people it has supported across generations.
The event will also provide an opportunity to celebrate the results achieved in recent years and to thank those who have contributed to fulfilling the organisation's humanitarian mission.
Awards will be presented to distinguished individuals, partners, supporters, employees, and volunteers whose commitment and continued support have contributed to the development of the organisation's humanitarian projects.
The event also represents 'a gesture of gratitude to the thousands of employees and volunteers who, generation after generation, have demonstrated that humanity, solidarity, and care for others remain fundamental values of Romanian society'.
The gala will be hosted by Iuliana Tudor, ambassador of the Romanian Red Cross, and will feature a series of artistic performances 'designed to reflect the emotion and significance of this anniversary'.
Performing pro bono will be several renowned Romanian artists, including the National Orchestra of the Bucharest National Opera, conducted by Maestro Daniel Jinga; soprano Irina Baiant; singer Paula Seling; the Three Tenors of Iasi - Florin Guzga, Andrei Fermesanu, and Andrei Apreotesei; tenor Alin Stoica; mezzo-soprano Andreea Dumitrache; and Alexandra Draghici, artists from the Royal Margareta of Romania Foundation's Young Talents programme.
Among the distinguished guests attending the anniversary gala will be Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Romanian Crown; His Royal Highness Prince Radu; Prince Dimitrie Sturdza; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Toiu; and the Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Romania, Cosmin Marinescu.
The Romanian Red Cross, which operates under the High Patronage of Her Majesty Margareta, was founded on 4 July 1876 and 'is a humanitarian organisation auxiliary to the public authorities, legally mandated to provide humanitarian assistance in the event of disasters and to support vulnerable people', the press release added.
