About seven million liters of stormwater still need to be removed from the Piata Victoriei 2 metro station, but the Army has sent four more high-capacity pumps, so that the entire amount of water will be cleared in a few hours, the interim Minister of Transport, Radu Miruta announced on Wednesday.
'I was at the Victoriei Square 2 metro station, where colleagues from the Emergencies Inspectorate (ISU) are pumping out the infiltrated water after last night's rains. There are still 7 million liters to be removed. In order to clear the water faster, the Army has sent four more high-capacity pumps. In a few hours, the entire amount of water will be taken out,' the minister wrote on Facebook.
He mentioned that after removing the water, the track will be cleaned and the electrical installation will be checked.
'In the meantime, ISU and ApaNova will clarify why the surface stormwater drainage did not handle last night's intense rainfall as it should have. It is clear that it is a problem in the area, while only the Victoriei metro station was flooded,' Radu Miruta said.
The track at the Victoriei Square 2 metro station was flooded as a result of the heavy rainfall recorded in the municipality of Bucharest and the massive water infiltration, so that, in order to carry out traffic safely, the station was closed on Wednesday morning, until the necessary interventions are completed and the situation is remedied, according to Metrorex, the company operating the Bucharest Metro.
