Bucharest will come under Romania's highest-level Red Code heat warning from Monday through Wednesday morning as an intense heatwave is forecast to push daytime temperatures up to 39 degrees Celsius, the National Meteorological Administration (ANM) said on Saturday.
The capital will first be under a Yellow Code warning from Friday morning until Saturday morning, followed by an Orange Code alert from Saturday morning until Sunday morning, before the Red Code warning takes effect from 10:00 a.m. on Monday until 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
Meteorologists forecast persistent and intensifying heat throughout the period, with severe thermal discomfort and the temperature-humidity index exceeding the critical threshold of 80 units.
Maximum temperatures are expected to rise from 32-34C on Friday to around 36C on Sunday before reaching 39C early next week. Overnight temperatures will remain between 18C and 23C, with tropical nights forecast throughout the period.
