Designated Prime Minister Luca Niculescu stated on Monday that his first task would be to build a majority to vote in a government 'deeply anchored' in Romania's European and Euro-Atlantic orientation, noting that he would hold discussions to this end with the parliamentary parties.

Niculescu said he could not promise miracles, but could promise a serious approach to the use of public funds and an acceleration of investments and reforms.

'I accept this responsibility fully aware of the difficulties of the moment. For a long time, Romania has been going through a period of political uncertainty amidst a challenging economic and international climate. My first task will be to build a parliamentary majority to vote in a government deeply committed to Romania's European and Euro-Atlantic path; I will hold discussions with parliamentary parties to form this majority and agree on a realistic governing program, and in the coming days, I will publicly present the outcome of these consultations, the government's priorities, and the team that will implement them,' stated Niculescu at Cotroceni Palace after being designated Prime Minister by President Nicusor Dan.

He pointed out the need for a period of stability and construction.

'I cannot promise miracles. What I can promise is a serious approach to the use of public funds, economic predictability, adherence to Romania's commitments, the acceleration of investments and reforms, and a state that functions as effectively as possible for its citizens—that is, for all Romanians. A stronger state also means a better-protected state; with a war on our border, we need firmness and vision to defend Romania. Protecting the country also requires a society capable of withstanding disinformation and manipulation—an area where we must strengthen our immunity. We need a period of stability and constructive progress, and I am confident we can achieve it,' stated Niculescu.

On Monday, President Nicusor Dan designated Luca Niculescu, State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to form the government, following new consultations held at Cotroceni Palace with parliamentary parties and groups.
