Bucharest's only international feature film competition, which will run from Friday until 27 September, brings together eight films from Europe and Asia this year, seven of which will be screened in Romania for the first time.

'The selection brings to Bucharest productions that have won awards or been presented at major international festivals such as Cannes, Berlinale, Sarajevo, Fantasia, Annecy and TIFF. (...) In 2026, the eight selected films come from Europe and Asia and explore themes such as adolescence, family and relationships between people, freedom, marginalisation, fear and violence, as well as the need for acceptance and understanding of others,' the organisers mentioned.

The following films are included in the BIFF 2026 Feature Film Competition:

* 'Everytime' by Sandra Wollner;
* '17' by Kosara Mitic;
* 'No Rest for the Wicked' by Kasper Kalle;
* 'The Blow' by Julien Gaspar-Oliveri;
* 'The Circle' by Valeriu Andriuta;
* 'We Are Aliens' by Kohei Kadowaki;
* 'Roya' by Mahnaz Mohammadi;
* 'Heysel 85' by Teodora Ana Mihai;

Eugenia Voda chairs the BIFF 2026 International Jury, which includes Simona Paggi, Kristina Cepraga Goodwin and Antonin Peretjatko.

Eugenia Voda (Romania), president of the Jury, is a film critic, film scholar, journalist and television presenter; Simona Paggi (Italy) is a film editor; Kristina Cepraga Goodwin (Romania/Italy) is an actress and director; Antonin Peretjatko (France, of Ukrainian origin) is a director.

The 22nd edition of the Bucharest International Film Festival - BIFF takes place at Apollo111, the Romanian Peasant Cinema and DeGalben - the cultural hub of District 1. This year's edition is supported by District 1 City Hall, which is making the DeGalben venue available to host part of the festival programme.

The festival opens on Friday at Apollo111 with the film called 'Redoubt,' directed by Swedish filmmaker John Skoog.

The festival's full programme will be available on BIFF's official channels, while tickets can be purchased through Eventbook.

This year's edition of BIFF is organised by the CHARTA Foundation and the 'Grigore Vasiliu Birlic' International Cultural Association, under the High Patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Radu, continuing the more than two-decade history of the Bucharest International Film Festival.
