A maritime drone that was discovered on Friday morning in the Constanta Civil Port, near the headquarters of the Romanian Agency for Human Life Saving at Sea (ARSVOM), self-detonated at around 10:30, without causing casualties, the National Defence Ministry (MApN) informed.

According to the MApN release sent to AGERPRES, the area had already been secured and isolated by forces from the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), the Coast Guard and the MApN, with the object at that time undergoing assessment and safety procedures.

The quoted source mentioned that the object is not part of the Romanian Army's equipment and was not involved in recent exercises organised by the MApN in the Black Sea area, the drone being of the type used in the war in Ukraine.

The case is being investigated by the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Constanta Court of Appeal. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Mihai Stoica; EN - writing by: Rodica State)
