A special section dedicated to Romanian books has been inaugurated at Shaanxi Provincial Library in China during a visit by the management of the Ovid Densusianu Hunedoara-Deva County Library, marking a new stage in the cooperation between the two cultural institutions that began 12 years ago.
The collection in the new section, named the Romanian Corner, consists of books donated by prestigious Romanian publishers, including Scoala Ardeleana Publishing House in Cluj-Napoca and the Romanian Academy Publishing House. The volumes include reference works on Romania and Hunedoara County, covering the country's history, literature, culture, heritage and cultural values, according to a press release sent to AGERPRES by the Hunedoara-Deva County Library on Tuesday.
'The books will be available to anyone wishing to learn more about our country, but they will also be an important resource for students at Xi'an International Studies University (XISU), which has a Romanian language lectureship. They will have access to materials that will help them deepen their knowledge of Romanian and gain a better understanding of Romanian culture and civilisation,' Sebastian Bara, director of the Hunedoara County Library, said on the occasion.
In his address at the inauguration, Bara recalled the history of cooperation between the two institutions and the ties developed over the years through exchanges of publications, professional meetings and cultural projects.
During the visit, the county library delegation also opened a painting exhibition entitled 'Roots and Memory', featuring 33 works inspired by Romanian and Hunedoara County traditions, symbols, landscapes and cultural heritage. The paintings were created and donated to Shaanxi Provincial Library by members of the Curcubeu painting club, which operates within the Ovid Densusianu Library.
In 2014, the Ovid Densusianu Hunedoara-Deva County Library, with the support of Hunedoara County Council and in partnership with the Confucius Institute in Sibiu, opened Romania's first and only library branch with a Chinese-language book collection.
Shaanxi Provincial Library is a cultural institution founded in 1909. Its building covers approximately 82,000 square metres, houses around eight million volumes and offers approximately 4,000 seats for visitors. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Sorin Blada; EN - writing by: Simona Iacob)
