Romania has the resources to produce energy, but potential cannot replace investment, with modern grids, storage capacity, simpler procedures and, above all, predictability needed, European Parliament Vice-President Victor Negrescu said at an energy conference on Thursday.

He mentioned that the next stage of the energy transition is no longer just about how much renewable energy we produce, but about our ability to use it efficiently.

According to him, Romania has the resources to produce energy, the potential offered by the Black Sea and an important geographical position, and can become a relevant energy player in the region.

'But this potential we are talking about cannot replace investment. We need modern grids, storage capacity, simpler procedures and, above all, predictability for investors. This is exactly the direction I have supported in the European Parliament. In negotiations on the European Union's budget, I called for more funding for infrastructure and interconnections,' Victor Negrescu said in a video message at the launch of the 3rd edition of the Code of Good Practices for Renewable Energy in Romania.
